It was such a delightful surprise to see Let the Souls of Our
Children Sing displayed at Broadview Garden Centre in Hadlow — a place I’ve
always associated with calm, beauty, and reflection. Seeing my book nestled
among the blooms and bookshelves brought back a rush of memories, not only of
the writing journey itself, but of my lifelong passion for education and
emotional growth in children.
This book is incredibly close to my heart. It stems from decades of
observing how children thrive when they’re given emotional freedom — when their
imagination and curiosity are nurtured, not stifled. I’ve believed this since
my earliest days in education in the 1970s. Back then, my classroom was a space
of discovery, music, and heartfelt expression — and those moments still echo in
my mind today.
Over the years, through journalism, magazine editing, and working with
wonderful organizations both in the UK and the US, my belief in the emotional
and creative empowerment of children has only deepened. Today, working at an
academy of drama and music, I see again and again how vital it is to let our
young people be heard — truly heard — and how deeply healing that can be.
Let the Souls of Our Children Sing is my
offering to all who believe in nurturing the whole child — mind, body, and
spirit. To see it sitting in Broadview, waiting to reach someone new, filled me
with gratitude. Here’s to the power of words and the beauty of growing — just
like the garden that held my book that day.
